Haiku At Black Dahlia - Poetry

Since I've been trying new things, I thought I'd take a stab at haiku. (It seems like most of the people I know either love it or hate it). So if you love it, have a look - I had a few accepted at Black Dahlia .

Oh, BTW, I haven't been able to see my followers for 2 days. I see by the total count that I have some new ones - greetings! Thanks for stopping by, and as soon as I find out who you are, I'll pay you a visit!

  1. Well done, fellow Black Dahlia poet! For some reason, the umbrella haiku is my favorite. Nice work on all of them.

  2. Sounds interesting - it's always good to push the composition borders outward.

  3. Hi Li- these are great - Like Milo, mine favourite was the umbrella haiku too!
Hope you're having a great weekend

  4. Nice :-) I am envious of people able to write haikus. Mine always come out sounding contrived and clearly awkward because of the intended syllabic structure. The smoothness that some are able to attain ... amazing!

  5. I love the second haiku!

As KLo mentioned, I'm amazed by people who write haikus. So few words, but they can mean so much.

  6. @Milo - thanks, I read yours several months ago and was suitably impressed. You have a real feel for the form.

@Royce - I think it's important to at least try different things. I learn just as much from failing.

@Laura - that was my favorite one too, for some reason. maybe because so much haiku seems deadly serious, and yet it's suited to light material as well!

@KLo, Timmy, Eagle - Thx! Not sure haiku is really my 'thing', it was a little frustrating to keep writing the same idea about 50 times to try and get it into the mold. Good discipline, but not really a lot of fun. (Except the umbrella. That just popped out with only one word change.)

  7. My favorite is the empty cave! What does that say? :)

  8. @Storyteller - I suppose that might have sounded snarky rather than humorous, which is why I don't do 'humour'. I'm famous for things coming out wrong.

@Teresa - That's to be left to the reader, of course. I couldn't possibly comment on that. ;)

  10. I used to write a lot of haiku. I need to get back into it as its relaxing and helps stimulate the ol' brain when it begins to wander. Have a safe and fun holiday weekend!
