The Victorians Had Rockets? - Photo

Photo copyright Lisa Vooght 2011
You can use it as long as you credit it...and a link would be nice!
Well, no. But I found this photo my folks took back in the day. Building, 1881. Rockets, early 1960s. Kind of cool, eh? I'm sure many of you know where this was taken. Might do as a writing prompt....

  1. Not much room for manoeuvre there;-)

  2. Now I want to see the opposite: A huge rocket flying through space with gothic churches and ancient stone masonry affixed to its sides.

  3. Cool, those were the monkey rockets, weren't they?! :)

Just curious but what is the "Listen Now" button at the top?

  6. They were the days. When life was in black and white, and rockets launched from anywhere

  7. Smithsonian, perchance?

  8. I agree with Alex--that would be perfect for steampunk! :)

  9. Yes, yes, yes, yes. It's cool, it's steampunk, those were the days, and the Smithsonian. To be more exact, it's the old Smithsonian in Washington DC, USA (now called the Arts and Industries building) when it was called "rocket row" in the mid-60s. There were actually 4 "rockets"; this pic shows 2 of them. The larger one is the Atlas booster from the mercury mission (thinking maybe Friendship 7), the smaller is the Polaris, the first submarine launched ICBM.
