Finished Art Project, An Old Story - And Now, For the A to Z!

Everything I've written recently has either been submitted or is in the can for A to Z. If you came here for a story, feel free to skip the art and go to the bottom of the post, where I've linked up an older story you might not have read.

So, I started out with a large stained wooden blanket chest and a photograph of a design the customer wanted reproduced.

I had to guess at the colors to use, as well as some of the designs - magnifying the picture gave me some details (such as the fact that the horses were merely outlined; under magnification, the wood grain showed through on the pic) but the figures and much of the scrollwork were blurred.

I opted to hand paint everything, and doing those circles was tedious and nerve wracking - I don't have the steadiest of hands. Still, the results aren't bad, and hopefully the customer will agree :-)

That's what I've been working on the past few weeks.  The A to Z Challenge starts in 4 days, so I probably won't post any more fiction until April 1st. I'm looking forward to it...and dreading it...in equal measure!

How about you? Are you participating? Any cool projects in the works?

If you came here to read a story, here's one you might not have read from last year:  Felony

  3. This is beautiful, I'm sure the customer is thrilled. I'm seriously tempted by the A-Z challenge, though daunted in equal measure. Am I up to it? I supposed there's only one way to find out...

    1. Thanks Beth! This sort of painting relies more on drafting skills...I tried some landscapes and portraits, and they didn't turn out nearly as well!

  5. Great art - I am beginning to think entering the A-Z challenge was a mistake as I have so much going on and have prepared nothing so I think I'll go for an easy theme. GOOD LUCK

    1. Hi David - I know you've got a lot going on, so kudos for going thru with the A to Z. And "easy" themes can still be interesting! I'm sure you'll do well.

  7. Wow, gorgeous! I wish I was more artistic that way, but my painting usually resembles blobs. Not so attractive.

    1. Hi Talli :-) I saw some "modern art" in NYC which didn't even qualify as blobs...you never know wat will be called art.

  8. Very cool project! I'd like to learn to paint someday. A to Z? Not this year, but I wish you and the other 1,000+ participants well. =]

    1. Thank you Milo :-) You've been humming along getting things published, so it's understandable that you can't make the A to Z this year. Keep on writing!

  9. Excellent work, Lisa! I wish I had more time for my own art; these days I only do one drawing a year (if you don't count stick figures): a Christmas gift for the wife.

And best of luck with the A to Z. As you know, I'm doing it again, but unlike last year I haven't written a single post yet. One of these days, I'll learn not to procrastinate...

    1. Procrastination - maybe. But with a new addition to the family, I'm sure you're also a bit short on time. Glad you'll be doing it again, you always give me a smile or two.

  11. Hi Li, Thanks for checking out my blog and following. I did the a-z challenge last year and it was a great experience. I'm sure this year will be even better!

  12. Did you make that?? Wow!!! You are not only brilliant, but you're crafty too. That is really awesome. I love folksy art. I got into wood carving for a bit, but I'm too much of an instant gratification person and it took too long.
Anyway, this is beautiful. You did a fantastic job. Round of applause! :)
I decided not to do the A - Z. I considered it, but don't know if I will have time. I had a great idea, but have procrastinated....bah!!
You will do marvelously though and I look forward to reading your daily cleverness. :) You should pour it into a coffee cup!! :)
